The Andhra Pradesh government has revived the long-pending Amaravati Inner Ring Road (IRR) project, giving fresh clarity on its future.
Spanning nearly 90 km, the IRR will require about 2,000 acres of land. Officials are preparing to restart the land pooling process, based on the original master plan prepared with support from agencies like JICA. The plan envisions two phases, including bridges across the Krishna River and links to Amaravati, Vijayawada, Tadepalli, and Mangalagiri.
Work on the IRR stalled after 2019 due to allegations of irregularities and lack of funding. Now, the government plans to execute it alongside the Outer Ring Road (ORR), which will be funded by the Centre, while the IRR will follow a PPP model to reduce the state’s financial burden.
Land pooling is expected to take about a year, with construction targeted for completion within two years once work begins. APCRDA has been tasked with updating the old Detailed Project Report and managing implementation.
By integrating Amaravati’s link roads and forming a clear circular network, the IRR is set to support a well-planned capital region and ease connectivity across NTR, Krishna, Guntur, and Palnadu districts.
